Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve

Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve, located approximately 120 km from Gorakhpur, lies in the northwestern corner of Bihar, near the Indo-Nepal border. Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas along the banks of the Gandak River, it is Bihar’s only tiger reserve and one of the most scenic and ecologically rich wildlife sanctuaries in eastern India.

Spanning over 900 square kilometers, the reserve is part of the larger Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary and falls within the Terai region, which is known for its lush forests, grasslands, wetlands, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. The reserve is named after Maharishi Valmiki, the sage who is believed to have composed the Ramayana and meditated in this very region.
